IASNM’s Chai with Scintillating Stars: Webcast Series #1 (Dr. Abass Alavi)

Dr. Abass Alavi needs no introduction for Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging people! He is a physician-scientist specializing in the field of Nuclear Medicine and holds the position of Professor of Radiology and Neurology, as well as Director of Research Education in the Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania. Over a career spanning five decades, he has amassed over 2,300 publications and 60,000 citations (and has wikepedia page in his name as well!!!). In August 1976, he was a crucial part of the team that performed the first human FDG study of the brain and whole body, the radiotracer (18-F Fluorodeoxyglucose or FDG) that remains the main PET (Positron Emission Tomography) radiopharmaceutical to this day! Most notably, he has trained innumerable Nuclear Medicine/Radiology Professionals over the past several decades, scattered all across the globe. They are his legacy! This is a brief interview to throw some light on his passion, his drive, his hobbies and his advice to the younger generation!
