2012 Travel Fellowship Awards:
The IASNM Board will recognize two best oral presentations in the Society of Nuclear Medicine, 2012. The presenting authors will be felicitated by a certificate accompanied by a $250 award. The competition is open to all presenters of Indian origin, including those who are working in countries other than India. Graduate students, Residents, Fellows and Postdoctoral researchers are especially encouraged. To apply, please send a copy of accepted abstract with abstract number, a brief resume and a support letter from the mentor or immediate supervisor to Dr. Vibhudutta Awasthi at vawasthi@ouhsc.edu. The deadline for the submission is May 01, 2012, and the winning candidates will be individually informed. Please note that the awards will only be given to the persons who are attending the Society of Nuclear Medicine meeting, 2012 in person. Please note that the best oral presentation awards will not be combined with the special one-time award described below and the same candidate may not avail of the two awards in the same meeting.

Visiting fellowship at Molecular Imaging Laboratory, Stanford University:
Latest update (April 24, 2012): Dr. Riddhika Maitra Chakravartty (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai) and Dr. K. Manohar (PGI, Chandigarh) have been selected for the fellowship to visit Dr. Sam Gambhir’s Molecular Imaging Laboratory at Stanford University.

This year, a special program is being offered by IASNM (courtesy, Dr. Sam Gambhir), in which two young physician scientists from India will be sponsored to visit Dr. Sanjiv Sam Gambhir’s molecular imaging laboratory at the Department of Radiology, Stanford University, and spend 3-4 days. This will immediately precede the main SNM meeting, and the actual days will be notified in due course of time. The goal of the program would be to enable trainees from India to come to the USA to foster academic exchange. They would likely have to present their past work and/or experiences to a small group of physicians and scientists at Stanford University. Details of the program will be communicated to the selected candidates.
To apply, please send a copy of accepted abstract with abstract number (if any), research interests, a brief resume and a support letter from the mentor or immediate supervisor to Dr. Vibhudutta Awasthi at vawasthi@ouhsc.edu. The deadline for the submission is April 01, 2012, and the winning candidates will be individually informed. Please note that these awards are instituted for the current calendar year of 2012 only, and there is no promise that such opportunity will be available in future.

Eligibility: Physician scientists enrolled in doctoral or post-doctoral program, residents and fellows. Young physician scientists at Assistant Professor level and in their first 3 years of appointment are also eligible to apply. The supervisors/mentors should clearly state the eligibility of the applicant in their letters of recommendation. An ideal candidate will be a young physician or physician-scientist who could not have come otherwise to attend 2012 Annual Meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine. Preference will be given to the candidates who have not been to any international meeting in the past.

Visa and travel: Obtaining visa for this visit will be the responsibility of the candidate. The candidate may have to buy the air ticket (anywhere from India to San Francisco) on his/her own and submit the receipts and documents for reimbursement up to $1,500. The reimbursements will be against the actual amount paid for the air ticket between India and San Francisco and will be coordinated directly by Stanford University. More information about the procedure will be provided to the candidates. Please note that the rules do not permit reimbursement for domestic travel within the USA. Therefore, San Francisco-to-Miami trip will be the responsibility of the candidate.

Lodging: Three night stay close to Stanford University will be arranged and paid for. IASNM will work with Stanford University to arrange the stay. The meals will be the responsibility of the candidate.

For more information about the program, please contact Dr. Awasthi, Vibhudutta at vawasthi@ouhsc.edu or (210) 454 1162.
